[Newsletter: Issue No. 3] Feeling as the Fire of Transformation

Dear Alchemists,

The last couple of weeks we have discussed the importance of befriending our fears and our ego.

Perhaps you are wondering, why?

I thought this was supposed to be a newsletter on spiritual alchemy. Maybe you expected me to recommend an ancient text or guide you through the esoteric process of turning lead into gold.

Well, what I’ve found is that this alchemical process is most effective when we allow ourselves to feel—instead of taking the easy road of over-intellectualizing and over-thinking.

Why is it “easy”?

Because that’s how most of us were programmed: to make sense of everything.
And when our feelings contradict logic, we often take those feelings around the corner and kick the shit out of them with the uppercut of reason and the frontkick of logic.

But here’s the truth—logic doesn’t transmute emotion; presence does.
Feeling is the fire of transformation.

And fire, after all, is the first step of the alchemical process. It purifies, burns away illusion, and reveals what’s real beneath the surface. Without fire, nothing changes form.

Every emotion is an element—grief as water, anger as fire, fear as air, shame as earth. When we suppress them, they harden into lead and they stay stuck.

When we feel them with compassion, they soften, rise and are transmuted. That is the work of the alchemist.

Each tear, each breath, each moment of vulnerability is a flame refining our essence.

This is the real Great Work—not escaping what we feel, but embracing it so deeply that it dissolves into understanding.

So this week, I invite you to notice what arises in your emotional landscape.
When discomfort visits, don’t rush to make sense of it. Sit with it. Breathe with it.

Let it speak.

Because every feeling you allow becomes gold in the making.

With love,

Denise Perez
