Dear Alchemists,
In our last newsletter, we explored The Principle of Vibration and arrived at a realization that quietly reshaped everything:
Nothing rests. Everything moves. Everything vibrates.
And if everything differs only by degree of vibration, then, what we call differences may not be differences in kind at all.
They may be differences in degree.
This is the doorway into Chapter Ten of The Kybalion: The Principle of Polarity.
The Hermetic teaching is simple, yet profound:
“Everything is Dual; everything has poles; everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same; opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree.”
At first glance, we see opposites everywhere:
Hot and cold. Light and dark. Love and fear.
We have been conditioned to experience these as separate… even opposing forces.
But the Hermeticists invite us to look again. Take temperature as an example.
Where does cold end and heat begin?
There is no clear dividing line. Only a spectrum.
Cold and heat are not separate things: they are variations along the same scale. Different in degree. Yet identical in nature.
The same is true for light and darkness.
Darkness is not the opposite of light. Darkness is simply the absence or lower degree of it.
And then we arrive at the most important application of this principle: The inner world.
Love and fear. Courage and doubt. Peace and anxiety.
What if these are not separate forces within you…but different points along the same continuum?
This realization changes everything.
Because if emotions exist on a spectrum, then transformation is no longer about eliminating one state and replacing it with another.
It becomes about shifting along the scale. Not by force or suppression, but by conscious awareness and movement.
Fear is not something to fight. It is a lower degree of the same energy that becomes love.
And through awareness, presence, and intention…we can begin to gently move that energy.
This is the heart of mental alchemy.
We are not here to reject parts of ourselves. We are here to transmute them.
To recognize that what we resist and what we desire are not separate realities…but expressions of the same essence, vibrating at different degrees.
And when we truly understand this, something softens. We experience what A Course in Miracles calls a miracle – the shift in perception from fear to love. An experience where judgment dissolves, resistance loosens, and choice becomes available. And we choose love.
Because if everything exists on a spectrum…then we are never stuck.
We are simply positioned. And position can change.
This is where the teachings of The Kybalion move from philosophy into practice.
Not just understanding polarity, but learning to work with it.
To observe where we are on the scale and consciously shift toward the frequency we choose to embody.
This is living alchemy.
