[Newsletter: Issue No. 6] The Spiral Path: Why Transmutation Isn’t a One-Time Event

Dear Alchemists,

If this journey has taught me anything, it’s that healing isn’t linear.
We don’t “finish” transmutation.
We live it…moment by moment, scenario by scenario, breath by breath.

In Chapter 3 of Alchemic Healings: The Art of Remembering, I describe the steps of emotional alchemy not as a checklist but as a living loop. A spiral. A rhythm that returns with every interaction, every trigger, every discomfort… especially in the moments where we don’t like what we’re seeing or how we’re feeling.

Transmutation is not a one-and-done breakthrough.
It’s a continual remembering.
A spiral that keeps rising if we let it.

And here’s the truth most people overlook:

You know the alchemy is working when the situation is the same, but your response isn’t.

That is the moment the transformation happens.

It’s when the thing that once clenched your stomach now meets a breath.
When the pattern that once overwhelmed you now meets awareness.
When the person who once activated you is now met by your softness, clarity, or neutrality.

That choice, that different response, is what creates the shift.
And the shift is what creates the change.

And when these familiar moments return (as they often do) the invitation is simple:

See and appreciate that you have changed.

The universe recycles people, patterns, and moments – not to test you, but to help you witness your evolution.
To help you choose differently.
To help you rise.

To choose presence instead of protection.
To choose awareness instead of reaction.
To choose truth instead of fear.

Each time you make a different choice, you step onto a higher rung of the spiral.
You feel yourself rising: internally, emotionally, energetically.

And here is the force that ignites the process:
Gratitude, the alchemical accelerant.

Gratitude is what turns the spiral upward instead of sideways.
It’s what transforms repetition into evolution.
It’s what reveals your growth in real time.

Gratitude doesn’t sugarcoat your emotions.
It dignifies them – by honoring them as messengers instead of judging them as problems.
It creates enough inner space for a new response to emerge.

This Thanksgiving week, whether you’re surrounded by family, in transition, or finding quiet moments for yourself, I invite you to acknowledge your spiral:

“I’ve been here before…but look at who I am now.”

As Seneca so beautifully said:

“What progress have I made?
I am beginning to be my own friend.
That is progress indeed.”

Noticing your growth is an act of friendship with yourself.
Honoring your evolution is an act of loyalty to your own becoming.
Seeing your progress, even in subtle ways, strengthens your soul’s trust in its own path.

Let that awareness be your gratitude.
Let that gratitude be your confirmation.
Let that confirmation be the breath that moves you forward.

Because every time you meet a familiar moment with a new response, you alchemize something ancient within you.
You turn the loop into a ladder.
You rise.

With love, remembrance, and deep gratitude for this shared journey,

Denise Perez
