Dear Alchemists,
So often, we’re told that our ego is the enemy — that fear must be conquered or dissolved before we can rise. But what if, instead, our fear is simply a younger version of ourselves asking to be heard?
In moments of alchemy and transition — whether through ceremony, heartbreak, or awakening — the ego often trembles. It senses change, and its instinct is to protect. This is why, during many plant medicine journeys, people speak of “ego death.” But true healing isn’t about killing any part of ourselves. It’s about integration.
The ego, like fear, once kept us safe. It learned how to survive when love felt scarce, and how to plan when trust felt far away. And so, rather than resisting it — we can talk to it:
“Thank you for bringing me this far. You’ve done well.
But now, it’s time to trust another way — a softer power.”
When we befriend our fear, we transform resistance into reverence. When we honor our ego, we reclaim the wholeness of our humanity.
You don’t need to banish your shadow to step into the light. You only need to invite it closer, listen, and remind it that love is leading now.
Reflection Prompt:
What part of you is asking for reassurance right now?
Can you sit with it, breathe into it, and say — “I see you. I’m not leaving you behind.”
