Dear Alchemists,
As I shared in December, 2026 marks a deeper collective exploration of The Kybalion and the Laws of Hermeticism. I’ve been spending time with the First Principle: Mentalism, and it quickly became clear why this teaching comes first. It is not only the foundation of the work – it is the key that unlocks it.
Chapter 3 of The Kybalion is devoted entirely to Mental Transmutation, a significance that cannot be overstated. In fact, the text dedicates five full chapters (3–7) to this truth before moving on to the remaining principles. This alone tells us something important:
Before we can understand correspondence, vibration, polarity, rhythm, cause and effect, or gender—we must first understand mind.
As The Kybalion so simply and powerfully states:
“The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental.”
This is not philosophy for philosophy’s sake. It is instruction.
The heading of Chapter 3 offers one of the most concise teachings on transformation ever written:
“Mind (as well as metals and elements) may be transmuted, from state to state; degree to degree; condition to condition; pole to pole; vibration to vibration. True Hermetic Transmutation is a Mental Art.”
This is where alchemy moves from the laboratory into lived experience.
Chapters 4 through 7 expand on this truth:
· Chapter 4 – The All introduces the infinite, living intelligence behind all things.
· Chapter 5 – The Mental Universe reveals that creation itself is mental in nature.
· Chapter 6 – The Divine Paradox explores how the infinite and finite coexist.
· Chapter 7 – The All in All brings us back home—showing that nothing exists outside of this living Mind.
One line in Chapter 5 feels especially important for us as humans walking this path:
“He creates mentally! And in doing so He uses no outside materials, nor does He reproduce Himself, and yet His Spirit pervades the mental creation.”
This single statement reveals something profound: creation does not begin with matter, it begins with mind. In the same way the All creates mentally, we too participate in creation from the inside out, shaping our experience through states of consciousness, belief, and vibration.
Mental transmutation is not denial of emotion.
It is not bypassing pain.
It is the art of working with mind, gently and consciously, until a new inner condition gives rise to a new outer experience.
This is the heart of alchemy.
This is the beginning of mastery.
And this is why everything else follows after.
